In this recent episode of Sam Harris’ podcast – Making Sense – Harris and guest Anil Seth discuss the fundamental questions surrounding consciousness including: where and how consciousness arises; the nature of perception and reality; emotion and aspects of the self; and consciousness in intelligent machines.

Anil Seth is no stranger to this field, holding degrees in Natural Sciences, Knowledge Based-Systems, and Computer Science and Artificial Intelligence. Seth is now Professor of Cognitive and Computational Neuroscience at the University of Sussex and a founding Co-Director of the Sackler Centre for Consciousness Science. Through his own research and the Sackler Centre, Seth is seeking to reveal the biological basis of consciousness and apply this understanding in treating psychiatric and neurological disorders. Their discussion on these topics is a must listen for those interested in neuroscience, consciousness and artificial intelligence.
